RUN THE METER

In my time at NYU’s News & Documentary program, I spent six months producing, shooting and editing my 40-minute thesis film, Run The Meter, about the demise of the NYC taxi industry. Following a spate of suicides by taxi drivers in the spring of 2017, I started investigating why my hometown’s yellow cabbies were taking their own lives. And that’s how it all began. As a native New Yorker and the daughter of an immigrant truck driver, I took great care in conveying the spirit of the taxi driver and the tragedy that struck their American Dream.

Run The Meter had its world premiere at The United Workers Film Festival in NYC in May of 2019 and has been featured in other film festivals since. It also received Runner Up for NYU’s Zenith and Sidney Gross Memorial Prize for investigative reporting. Watch the trailer above and learn more about the film’s backstory on Latino Rebels.
